Antisocial behaviour in young men linked to low levels of stress hormone

A British research team have discovered a link between antisocial behaviour in male adolescents and reduced levels of the ’stress hormone’ cortisol.
As a rule levels of cortisol in the body increase when people undergo a stressful experience, such as public speaking, sitting an exam, or having surgery.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Associated With More, Longer Hospitalizations

Researchers from Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and Boston Medical Center (BMC) have found post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with more hospitalizations, longer hospitalizations and greater mental healthcare utilization in urban primary care patients. These findings appear in the current issue of Medical Care.
Prior studies suggest that trauma exposure and PTSD have considerable impact on health care use and costs. (more…)
